The web site for IT for All in the United Kingdom is: http://www.itforall.org.uk/ ] IT FOR ALL - UK IT For All is a partnership between Government and business designed to give everyone the opportunity to learn about and benefit from Information Technology and play an active part in the Information Age. Recent research has shown that 40% of the population fall into two groups when it comes to attitudes to IT, those who are unconvinced of the benefits and those who fear they are being left behind by computers but doubt their ability to learn. The scheme offers people the chance to visit their local IT For All centre to try out computers and other Information Technology for themselves. Members of the public wanting to receive details of their 10 nearest centres can call free on 0800 456567. There are now just over 2,000 IT For All centres around the country and IT For All plans to enlist a further 2,000 during 1998. IT for All centres can be found in public libraries, schools, community centres as well as internet cafes. They give people the opportunity to get hands on experience of computers and IT in a friendly and relaxed environment. The second phase of the initiative, IT for All Learning Centres, was launched in March 1998. Learning Centres offer those interested in developing their IT skills the chance to undertake more structured computer learning, providing easy access to IT facilities with full time supervisions. A new, CD ROM learning package, specially developed for IT for All by Microsoft and NIACE (National Institute for Adult and Continuing Education) will be available in every centre. IT for All has attracted significant support from the private sector. The major business partners in the scheme are BT, Dixons, ICL, Microsoft and Woolwich.
