- - E-Mail for All - - - EMFA-EVENT - - - Universal Access - - Welcome, This is the first Universal Access Conversation "host" message. Host messages include event details, administrative information, and content submission reminders. Thank you to the Markle Foundation for sponsoring this event and to the E-MAIL FOR ALL Board of Advisors for their advice and participation with theme development. Later in the event we will share additional acknowledgments. This week we will cover the themes of Universal E-Mail and Universal Internet. Next week we will explore Networking Communities and Private and Public Roles. The turn out for the event is excellent. With around 575 online subscribers from over 30 countries we have double the expected turnout. Less is more. We promised no more than 15 messages each weekday through May 15. We will strive for 10 well identified messages each day. Each day will be made up of to 5 "essays", one or two host notes, an informational post or two, and edited digests with audience responses to the essays and theme questions. Consider this event a new beginning for the next generation of policy discussions related to universal access to e-mail and the Internet. We have an opportunity to place a number of issues on the table that can influence conversations across the Internet. A list of the most important online forums related to "Internet Policy and Community" is being developed. When this interactive moment closes, we will encourage the use of ongoing discussion spaces across the Internet where free-flow issue exchanges and collaboration occur every day. Content Submission Please consider submitting an essay on one of the four themes. We will review all essays and forward those that fit within the scope of the event. We have some important people lined up to share their perspectives and information, why don't you join them on the "virtual stage"? We ask that all submitted essays be under 500 words if possible. They must be sent in TEXT-ONLY with less than 75 characters a line (e-mail style messages - this message has 65). You retain ownership of your submissions, but we will encourage redistribution of event posting via e-mail during the event to share the value of the event widely. The deadline this week for the Universal Internet theme is Wednesday, for next week, we ask that you send essays in this Friday for Networking Communities and by Monday for Private and Public Roles. Visit the theme pages for details: http://www.iaginteractive.com/emfa/themes.htm With the theme questions, essays, and other informational postings you are encouraged to send in your brief _public_ comments that we will compile and send out to the EMFA-EVENT list in an organized fashion. Please indicate in the SUBJECT line the essay or theme question to which you are responding. We will be able to work with general comments versus point-by-point commentary within another message. We ask that all comments and essays include the following information if available: Name Title/Organization E-Mail Address Web Address Location/Country Send all submissions to: emfa@publicus.net Thanks again for joining us and let the Universal Access Conversation begin!
